MAP Enrichment

(2 hours per week)

Course Description:  The MAP Enrichment class would meet once per
week. Each tutoring session would last for 2 hours each. The MAP test
is a test given 2 or 3 times each year to elementary, middle school, and
high school students to track how the students have progressed in math
and language arts. The test is often used to determine the placement of
students in remedial and advanced placement classes. The MAP
Enrichment class would teach a variety of math skills that are often
tested on the MAP test. These math skills will range from 5th, 6th, 7th,
8th, and 9th grade with a concentration on the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade math
skills. Many skills covered will be those math skills that tend to be
neglected in the regular math classroom. Different skills will be taught at
different sessions, so attendance at the previous session is not required for understanding of the current session.

Focus:  The focus of the class is to provide students with the math skills necessary to obtain a higher score on the MAP test.

Intended Audience:  This class would be excellent at teaching students who have skipped math grade levels the math skills they have missed entirely or to provide them a review of skills seen in the past. This class would also be excellent at providing enrichment for younger students wanting to learn math skills before they have been formally taught them in the regular math classroom. Mr. Summers’s students at Avery Trace enrolled in any of his classes would be eligible to attend this class.
